How Roy Huntington (Editor of American Handgunner and +20 Year Veteran Street Cop) Invented the CopTool

After a career on the police department breaking all manner of folding and fixed-bladed knives, it dawned on me I didn’t need a knife — I needed a “tool.” I realized I used an old screwdriver more than I used a big knife, and the small pocket folder I had took care of the general cutting duties. Once I retired, I designed a 6" “fixed-bladed” tool with a belt cutter, scraper and serrated cutting edge. It sold exceptionally well to law enforcement, military and even to the trades like mechanics, construction workers, truckers and anyone who needed a tough “tool” for cutting, scraping, prying and the like.

When Triple Eight came to me and offered to make a folding version, it seemed a natural idea. The final result — the Triple Eight Professional CopTool — exceeds my expectations. It performs all out of proportion to its size, and would have definitely been a part of my daily carry “kit” when I was on-duty.
